Bali Gets 37% Rise in Russian Tourists

The number of Russian tourists visiting Bali in the January-February 2008 period rose 37 per cent to 13.479 from 9.826 in the same period last year.

The figure put Russia in seventh place in terms of foreign tourists visiting the resort island, the head of the Bali provincial office of statistics, Ida Komang Wisnu, said on Friday. Overall, 294.032 foreign tourists visited Bali in the first two months of this year.



The official noted a total of 36.934 Russian tourists visited Bali in 2007, up 48 per cent from a year earlier.

1.7 mill visitors for Bali targets

Bali is optimistic it will achieve its target of attracting 1.7 million foreign tourists in 2008, following an unusual increase in the number of tourist Arrivals in the resort island early this year, an official said.

The number of foreign tourists flying directly to Bali rose to 153.757 in January 2008, from 140.275 a year earlier, head of the Bali Provincial Statistics Office Ida Komang Wisnu said on Wednesday.

Of the total, came from Japan 63.648, 36.048 from Australia, 28.799 from China, Taiwan and 25.330 from 20.189 from South Korea.

The increase showed that Bali’s tourism, which relied on landscapes, cultural heritage and local people’s hospitality, was still attractive to the world community, he said.

A total of 294.032 foreign tourists visited Bali in January and February 2008.
