The Kuta Karnival Parade on Sunday July 3 will paint the tourist village red and will set new heights of being the greatest street carnival in Kuta. Involving of hundreds of local community and tourist industry partners, the participants will circle the route around Pantai Kuta, from Ppa’s Café to Melasti, Legian Street through Ground Zero where they stop of a minute of silent, onward to Bakung sari atreet and ending in front of Bali Anggrek hotel, along the Kuta Beach stretch. The parade flagged off at 15.00 WITA and will take about three hours to complete the route, watched approximately fifty thousand spectators by the roadside, at one of the busiest part of the title island of Bali.
Various fascinating and colorful attraction will be displayed by each parade participant. From a unique troupe of Balinese traditional Okakan musician, antique motorcycle procession, Harley Davidson Riders, scooters, decorated vehicle, ornamented horse carts, unicyclists, models in the trendiest of fashion and plenty more. Companies participating in the parade will try to outdo each other to show the best of what their products and services can offer.
One highlight of the Kuta Karnival Parade is certainly the hundreds of traditional Balinese dancers in colorful outfits marching along into the tunes of the musicians. After the procession, they will certain everyone with a colossal dances performance at Kuta beach to welcome the famous sunset.
‘The vibrant parade will become the success measure of Bali’s annual Kuta Karnival. Therefore, we hope this year everyone in community will actively participate and get more and more involved compared to previous year,” state Made Morgan, Parade Coordinator for Kuta Karnival 2005.
As stated by Made Morgan, this year the committee has promised a more festive parade yet much more orderly and organized. There is an improved parade facility such as security as well as a careful look into parade participants and spectators convenience, also cleanliness of the route passed by providing a mobile toilet, garbage cans, and a team of cleaning service staff at numerous designated location. The committee also provides a stage for spectators and invitees with a capacity of 200 chairs along the street front of Hard Rock Café.
Aside of increasing the number parade participants from 23 groups last year to 40 groups this year, the participants performance will also be apprised. The best and favored participant will receive an award and trophy from the committee. “Hopefully, this appraisal process will encourage participants creativity,” adds Made Morgan.
Judgment will be based on appraisal of theme attractiveness, uniqueness, orderly manner of presentation and massage conveyed. The jury team will consist of on-the-spot international tourists, media representatives, invitees, tourism industry practitioners, as well as the Kuta Karnival committee members. In the selection of ‘favorite participants’ title, the committee will distribute forms to spectators so they can directly choose their favorite participant. Forms tabulated will then allow the committee to present the awards immediately after the parade, which will be incorporated into the closing ceremony programme at the food festival stage.
To sets up the Kuta Karnival and introduce parade participants profiles and theme they carry, the committee will provide parade commentators in bahasa Indonesia and English. Commentators will located in two different locations, namely the parade start point at Papa’s Café and the spectators stage located opposite of Hard Rock Café Thus, visitors not only receive information on parade participants but they also understand the diversity of culture and communities in Bali, especially in Kuta area.
Festivities of the Kuta Karnival parade will continue to the life entertainment at a stage in food festival area, at Legian Beach area not far from the parade finish line. Food from 12 different countries will be presented by about 60 stalls, with the hopes that tourist visiting this event will bring back home memories of Kuta Karnival celebrations.
