Tourism components united in Bali Tourism Board (BTB) together with a package candidate of Top Executive of Badung Regency, Made Sumer-IB NgurahOka signed a Memorandum of Understanding on “Bali Tourism DestinationManagement” yesterday (wed, 4/5) in Denpasar.

The material of memorandum is a concept of synergy relationship between government and private sector. BTB offers a model of harmonious relationship, well known as Public-Private Partnership and will be implemented as G to P Joint Cooperation. The concept stated that government is the facilitator-stabilizer and private sector is the executor of tourism development programs.
The MoU was a result and feedback action of a meeting between tourism players and Sumer-Oka on 11 April 2005, at BTB office,Renon-Denpasar. In the meeting, Sumer-Oka asked for tourism industries advices on how to manage Badung tourism. “The summaries and advices from tourist industries and all stakeholders are combined with our vision, then these are formulated and included in the MoU,” Made Sumer, the candidate of top leader of Badung Regency said to press.
BTB chairman, Putu Agus Antara said, today it is not the right time to take bureaucratic approaches in undertaking tourism management and coordination among stakeholders. “Therefore, what we signed is a new momentum to map the problems and to understand the direction of Bali economic development through tourism. The written commitment will become a foundation and new spirit for the next Bali tourism management, professionally and proportionally,” Putu said.
Soon, the signed MoU will be socialized to BTB’s members and all tourism players throughout the island. “All BTB’s stakeholders are not wasting time anymore. Now, we have to bargain our position towards the next top leader of Badung regency,” he added.
Putu Antara views Made Sumer and Ngurah Oka are candidates who are proficient to lead Badung regency. Made summer had good track record in bureaucracy when he was a Vice Bupati of Badung. Sumer and Oka understood core problems in Badung, particularly in tourism sector and they knew how to solve them.

Support by BTB to the candidate is not only about politics matter. It is not about a ceremonial agenda or even such a highly-exclusive deal between elite government with elite conglomerates.
BTB underpins every single effort to concrete professional tourism destination management and particularly to set up harmonious relationship between Public-Private-Customers/Community as recommended by PATA two years ago.
“You know, Badung is currently controlling tourism of Indonesia. In fact, the economic of Bali is powered by tourism sector. Bali tourism industries and almost public infrastructures are now mostly located in Badung areas. So, we have to construct a very good cooperation with the government as the decision maker.
I think, Badung must be lead by a smart team player, a person who is able to do cross-sector coordination, among all tourism stakeholders and mainly to us as private sector,” Putu explained.#denny-iqbal
